On Saturday Sept 7th the Lowndes County Master Gardeners held their 4th Annual Butterfly Bonanza. This year was the biggest turnout yet with 228 visitors in just 2 hours! During our Butterfly Bonanza you not only have the opportunity to walk around at your leisure but our Master Gardeners are present to answer your questions. Visitors can witness the mesmerizing spectacle of migrating butterflies in all their glory. If you're lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of a caterpillar or chrysalis, offering a glimpse into the miraculous transformation of these enchanting creatures.
If you missed the big event, that's ok because it's open to the public year round. Our butterfly garden serves not only as an educational resource but also as a delightful escape for the community to revel in the beauty of nature. Designed with the community in mind, the Butterfly Garden offers an opportunity to explore and learn about various host and nectar plants crucial for the well-being of butterflies and pollinators. As stewards of this thriving oasis, Master Gardeners collect leaves during winter, which are thoughtfully repurposed during the spring clean-up, ensuring a sustainable and flourishing habitat.
With fall approaching, consider donating your bagged leaves to the butterfly garden. You can reach the Master Gardeners through the Lowndes County Extension Office.
